A restoration that brings history back to life
Over 8,000 square metres of façades and 17,000 historic pieces have been carefully restored using traditional craftsmanship techniques, many of which were nearly lost, to bring this place back to its original splendour. Among its most outstanding features are:
- An impressive Art Deco stained-glass window (1942), which once adorned the operations hall of Banco Zaragozano and now crowns the main atrium of Galería Canalejas.
- Original marble floors and counters from Banco Español de Crédito (1922), carefully restored and now enhancing some of the boutiques.
- Lattices, railings, friezes, and capitals, meticulously preserved to maintain the building’s character and essence.
- Majestic armoured doors from the former bank vaults, rescued from the underground levels and now displayed for visitors to admire.
