"LA CLAVE ES EL SOMBRERO": AN EXHIBITION IN SUPPORT OF SPANISH CRAFTSMANSHIP

Balel Luxury Hats, the Spanish artisanal brand created by hatmaker Isabel Terroso, comes to Galería Canalejas with an exhibition that celebrates the tradition and art of Spanish hatmaking.

Under the title "La Clave es el Sombrero” (“The Hat is the Key”) the exhibition showcases her unique jewelled headpieces—original creations that embody excellence through simplicity—supporting the recuperation of artisanal techniques used more than a hundred years ago.
HAT-SHAPED JEWELS
The exhibition, which coincides with the Feria de San Isidro, highlights the work of Isabel Terroso, the artist behind Balel. After ten years working as an engineer, the artisan decided to change her career path to follow her passion for creating hats. Using classic techniques from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, she crafts hats for brides that combine trends and simplicity with refined elegance and glamour.
Her designs, characterized by clean and sleek lines, have attracted the attention of prestigious fashion houses like Dior and Chanel, allowing her to open her own atelier where she conducts her creative process and attends her clients. The exhibition at Galería Canalejas features a selection of her jewelled headpieces, each with unique designs full of detail and meticulous craftsmanship, turning them into authentic jewels.
SUPPORTING CULTURAL LEGACY AND ARTISANAL TRADITION
With this exhibition, Galería Canalejas reinforces its commitment to Spanish craftsmanship and its support for local artists. The aim is not only to offer exclusive experiences but also to promote the preservation of artisanal traditions and provide a platform for artisans like Isabel Terroso to showcase their talent.
Additionally, as part of this initiative, Galería Canalejas will host two sessions where attendees can meet the artist Isabel Terroso, offering the the opportunity to learn more about the art of artisanal hatmaking. These encounters will take place on May 17 and May 31 at Galería Canalejas Private Lounge, where visitors can interact with the artist and learn more about the creative process and techniques she employs.
