THIS YEAR, THE LA PALOMA FESTIVAL STARTS IN LA LATINA AND CONTINUES AT GALERÍA CANALEJAS

August, 12, 2022

Madrid in August is like a city on pause. The capital takes a “rest” in summer but a good festival is always a great excuse to bring forward your return to the city or delay your departure.

The La Paloma Festival will be celebrated on 14 and 15 August this year and is the most famous in the picturesque district of La Latina, filling this spectacular part of the capital with even more colour. In honour of this typically Madrid festival, the Galería Canalejas Food Hall is highlighting all its restaurants that are joining in the celebrations.

Have you heard of the iconic violet sweets? They were first sold more than one hundred years ago in a small sweet shop in Plaza de Canalejas. Nowadays, El Goloso has recreated its own version of these highly typical sweets from Madrid with white chocolate and violet.

The best popular festivals taste of tradition, and is there anything more typical than a ration of delicious baby squid? Garelos, the Galician tavern at the Galería Canalejas Food Hall, will be serving this delicacy in their ink or grilled with garlic and parsley.

Calamari is another equally traditional dish and St James will be paying tribute to this seafood by offering the potera squid variety prepared in a number of different ways, something new for this festival on its regular menu of delicious rice and paella dishes.
