COSMOGRAPH DAYTONA, THE ROLEX OF RACING DRIVERS AND YOURS THIS CHRISTMAS

November, 17, 2022

Measuring time is an essential part of any major sports event. Rolex released this model to meet the demands of professional racing drivers in 1963. The chronograph became the perfect instrument on which to measure elapsed time and read average speeds.

The name of this watch, Cosmograph Daytona, pays tribute to a specific place - Daytona Beach, Florida - where passion for speed and racing developed in the early 20th century. Daytona beach was the perfect place for setting speed records. Rolex has been the official watch of the Daytona International Speedway® ever since it was opened in 1959.

Over the years, Rolex has gradually increased its presence at races while supporting top drivers and events around the world.

This model from the Swiss brand is unique. On the Cosmograph Daytona, elapsed hours and minutes are read on the distinctive counters at 9 and 3 o’clock respectively, and the seconds are read using the arrow-tipped centre hand and the 60-second scale around the dial.

The metal or high-tech ceramic bezel also functions as a tachometer. This means its scale can be used to read the average speed over a set distance based on elapsed time. The perfect instrument to determine a speed up to 400 units per hour, whether in kilometres, miles or any other unit of measurement.
